Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the AFSCME Retirees?
We are hundreds of thousands of retired public service workers across the country who have come together to fight for retirement security. We are retired nurses, social workers, sanitation workers, and correctional officers to name just a few of the thousands of public service jobs we did while working, but we haven't quit just because we're retired.
We are part of the American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME) the leading voice for public service workers and retirees. AFSCME Retirees began operation in 1980 and operates more than 300 state and local groups nationwide. To learn more about us, please go to: https://www.afscme.org/union/retirees
2. What is this all about? I'm retired/have my pension, what do I need a retiree organization for?
It's about protecting retirement security. You received an email and information because our strength is in our numbers, and we would love if you joined hundreds of thousands of public service retirees and became a member of retiree organization.
